GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY'S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT
The company creates engaging art led environmental and educational experiences to connect people with the diversity of British bees and our wider ecological networks.
In our first financial year, we have connected with our audience through exhibitions in two locations in Somerset.
We have invited the local communities to these informative events with free felt making workshops. The Company focused on raising awareness of its mission while beginning to establish the foundation for its long term community benefit projects.
The company launched a Crowdfunded Prize Draw featuring one of Lydia Needle's original bee sculptures to kick start fundraising for two key initiatives: the creation of a permanent collection of 50 bee sculptures, which will be available for loan to museums, schools, artist and community organisations across the UK, bringing British bees and wildlife into public spaces: and the development of educational resources, including research packs, guides and creative materials to help people of all ages learn about, understand and be inspired by native bees. The prize draw concluded on 25 September and raised £391.62 towards these objectives.
In September, the Company also held a pop-up exhibition over two weekends in Bruton High Street. The exhibition introduced the public to the Company's work, increased awareness of its environmental and educational aims and provided opportunities to engage with the local community. Sales of cards and books generated additional income to support the Company's activities while the event helped build a growing audience of supporters, volunteers and potential partners.
